The Healing Power of Reiki

In our fast-paced world, finding balance and inner peac e can seem like a pretty distant goal which we might achieve once we retire. However, Reiki, a Japanese healing practice that's been gaining popularity for its potential to restore harmony and promote overall well-being, might be the answer. Let's dive into the fascinating world of Reiki and discover how it might just be the key to unlocking YOUR body's natural healing abilities.

What is Reiki?

Reiki, which translates to "universal life force energy," is a spiritual healing practice developed in 1920s Japan by Dr. Mikao Usui (of whom I am a descendant student). It's based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us, and when this energy is low, we're more likely to feel stressed or unwell. During a Reiki session, a practitioner serves as a conduit for this universal energy, channeling it through their hands to you. The goal? To remove energy blocks, promote relaxation, and stimulate the body's natural healing processes.

"Reiki is love,
Love is wholeness,
Wholeness is balance,
Balance is well-being,
Well-being is freedom from disease." Dr. Mikao Usui

What to Expect from a Reiki session

A typical Reiki session lasts 45 to 60 minutes, and it can be done online or in person. Here's what you can anticipate for an in-person session:

  1. You'll lie fully clothed on a massage table/ bed. Sitting on a chair also works.

  2. The practitioner will place their hands lightly on or just above different parts of your body.

  3. You might feel sensations like warmth, tingling, or pulsing.

Some people report seeing colors or having vivid visualizations during their session. Others might simply drift into a deeply relaxed state – and that's perfectly fine too!

The Benefits of Reiki

While more research is needed to fully understand Reiki's effects, many people report significant benefits from regular sessions:

  • Improved Sleep: Many recipients report better sleep quality after Reiki treatments.
